Position Summary
This position will support the Engineering Group by performing design work, evaluating and optimizing existing systems, troubleshooting systems, and working closely with fellow site operations personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Independently lead design/build projects across all 3 NETL sites.
- Design instrumentation, control, and data acquisition systems for continuous process systems ranging from lab to pilot-scale projects. This includes selecting logic solvers, HMIs, and field instruments, low-voltage electrical design, and logic diagram development.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and test single- and multiple-loop controllers, programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, and human-machine interface software.
- Oversee the optimization of current processes and control systems to ensure systems are finely tuned and working at optimum levels.
- Lead commissioning, shakedown, and testing activities on new or modifications to electrical and control systems in the laboratories
- Efficiently use Autodesk AutoCAD to prepare engineering drawings, including but not limited to electrical power plans, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), network diagrams, control panel fabrication drawings, wiring diagrams, and I/O drawings per NFPA 70 National Electric Code.
- Review interdisciplinary engineering documents and work with other members of the engineering team to resolve any issues.
- Create productive relationships with organizations within and external to the Engineering Group.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or the sciences from a four-year accredited college or university or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology and a Professional Engineering License.
- 0 – 15 years of professional experience.
- Good oral and written communication skills, working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications, organizational skills, and the ability to perform detail-oriented work are required.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to pass a background investigation, including but not limited to a nationwide criminal record search, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by the contract
- United States citizenship is required to work on a federal contract and will be electronically verified via E-Verify
