Responsibilities
The Senior Engineering Manager / Director of Global Compliance Engineering provides leadership, strategic direction, and global oversight for all compliance engineering activities at MSA. This role ensures that new products and solutions are developed and launched in accordance with regulatory requirements, certification standards, and global market access needs. The leader in this position will drive compliance strategy, partner across functions, and represent MSA with international governing bodies and regulatory organizations.
The incumbent will:
Lead Global Compliance Engineering Function
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Global Compliance Engineering organization.
- Lead all Compliance Engineers and global staff to ensure successful development and launch of compliant products.
- Attract, develop, and retain top compliance talent.
- Deliver certification-ready solutions that meet global regulatory standards.
Drive Corporate Strategy & Portfolio Planning Alignment
- Shape and evolve product compliance and global market access strategies, including solutions with integrated radio technologies.
- Participate in annual portfolio planning with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and external partners.
- Forecast compliance resourcing needs and maintain accurate departmental budgets.
- Ensure regulatory requirements are built into planning for upcoming and ongoing product initiatives
Manage International Partnerships
- Establish and maintain international partnerships to support incountry representation globally.
- Collaborate with the Law Department to structure contracts and mitigate risks in complex international regulatory engagements.
- Maintain proper authorization structures with thirdparty and multiparty partnerships.
Oversee Global Product Regulatory Matters
- Lead processes for managing country-specific product regulations and standards.
- Provide regulatory interpretation and make decisions where guidance is unclear or ambiguous.
- Review and execute legally binding agreements with certification bodies, government agencies, and international partners.
- Work closely with the Law Department on ethics and compliance matters related to regulatory affairs.
Represent MSA to Regulatory & Governing Bodies
- Serve as the company’s representative with government and nongovernment regulatory entities.
- Maintain relationships with trade associations, consultants, and certification agencies.
- Engage in regulatory discussions, standards development, and policy initiatives.
Lead the Global Product Stewardship Program
- Develop and continuously improve MSA’s global Product Stewardship program.
- Evaluate business needs, regulatory requirements, and modern tools to enhance stewardship processes.
- Lead internal teams and third-party contributors to deploy consistent global solutions.
- Support Global EHS & Product Stewardship goals through training, communication, and program development.
Qualifications
Technical & Professional Experience
- 15+ years of experience in product development, quality, compliance, or related fields.
- Proven ability to interpret and communicate U.S., European, and international regulatory schemes and consensus standards.
- New product development experience delivering products on time, on budget, and aligned with customer requirements.
- Experience working with internationally dispersed teams.
- Demonstrated ability to assess ambiguous regulatory situations, identify risks, and make informed decisions.

- Excellent written communication and regulatory documentation skills.
- Strong strategic planning and organizational efficiency capabilities.
- Proven leadership, influencing skills, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving, flexibility, and teamwork.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (required).
- MBA or Master’s degree in a related engineering or business field (preferred).
