Job Summary

MDS Assistant Course Coordinator



This is a seasonal temporary position with a duration up to one year where the incumbent continues the work of MDS Course Facilitators while directly assisting MDS Course Coordinators. Tasks include:
1. Providing technical support with the LMS
2. Helping communicate course policies and deadlines
3. Responding to student inquiries about the course
4. Holding regular office hours
5. Providing support for and acting as backup for Course Coordinators in terms of:

a) working with instructional designers on course rollouts and improvements for future terms

b) monitoring work of MDS Course Facilitators and Course Assistants to ensure no gaps in coverage or delayed completion of instructional support.

c) troubleshooting more significant technical issues within the courses as they arise


Requirements:

• Must have recently completed a Master’s degree at Pitt in an area relevant to the Master of Data Science. Such degrees include Information Science, Computer Science, Intelligent Systems, Statistics, any degree involving data and data analysis, other STEM fields.

Preferences:

• Master’s Degree recently completed within SCI
• Prior experience as an MDS Course Assistant or Course Coordinator while a student at Pitt.

Optional requirements:

• Experience with virtual channels of communication (e.g., Slack, Teams etc.)
• Patience and willingness to answer questions in multiple ways
• Troubleshooting issues in online environments
• Instructional design support
• Successfully completed coursework in (or professional experience with):

• JAVA or Python programming
• Database programming, design, management including proficiency in SQL
• Calculus, statistics, probability
• Descriptive and Predictive Modeling
• Data Visualization
• Responsible Data Practices
• Data Analysis
• Cloud Computing
